The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, inspected the works under way at Enguri HPP. According to the Prime Minister, building hydropower plants in Georgia is of the utmost importance for the country’s energy independence.

“Today we inspected the works under way at Enguri HPP. The cost of the works is EUR 43 million. The works began in January and will be completed at the end of May. Enguri HPP is of the utmost importance for our country.

This plant was built about 50 years ago and everyone knows perfectly well that this whole area was built up through its construction, that thousands of people were employed. More than 40% of total generation is produced by Enguri HPP. Just imagine that Enguri HPP did not exist in our country; and if anyone has concerns today about hydropower plants, I would remind them that these plants are hugely important for the country’s energy independence,” said Irakli Garibashvili.
