Levan Mebonia, chairman of the Board of Directors of Enguri HPP LLC: “The rehabilitation works consist mainly of drilling and cementation. The places have been marked in advance. In total this amounts to about 2.5 km. It is in exactly these sections that drilling and cementation will be carried out. These are the places from which the largest volume of water leaks out of the tunnel.”

“Besides these works, the demolition of the damaged concrete lining and the construction of a new lining are foreseen. Between 30 and 35% of the floor along the whole length of the tunnel is damaged, and we intend to repair it while the plant is shut down. The places that are repaired and where the water leakage stops will no longer pose a risk of major damage or of an emergency shutdown of the tunnel in future. Accordingly, this is also a form of prevention,” Levan Mebonia told Moambe.
