Natia Turnava was briefed on the study of the condition of Enguri HPP and the progress of the rehabilitation works

Natia Turnava: “Enguri HPP has been running since the end of the 1970s. Since then no rehabilitation of the tunnel on this scale has been carried out. There were several repairs, but what is being done today really does use the latest technology, and you have seen that for yourselves. Up to 300 people are employed on the works and most of them live in this region. It is very important that this is our largest source of hydropower, which sustains Georgia and supplies the energy market with a very large volume of hydro resources, practically 40–50%.”

Levan Mebonia: “Right now drilling and cementation works are under way in the tunnel. This is one part of the overall rehabilitation works, and it requires the plant to be shut down completely. These works will finish at the end of April, and at the beginning of May the plant will be connected to the grid.”
