Following the rehabilitation of the Enguri HPP diversion tunnel, electricity generation rose sharply from 1 to 24 May 2021.

While Georgia’s largest hydropower plant generated 141.353 million kWh over 24 days in May 2020, in the same period of 2021 that figure rose by 98.5% to 280.608 million kWh.

In May this year Enguri HPP generated the largest volume of electricity on 20 May — 16.606 million kWh, against 7.646 million kWh in the same period of the previous year.

Even before the plant resumed operation, the general director of Enguri HPP said that generation would increase. Levan Mebonia expected a rise of 10–15%.
