The company Energon is completing the rehabilitation of Enguri HPP / www.forbes.ge

“Enguri HPP is the most important source of electricity for our country, since it generates 45% of Georgian energy. The fact that we have an uninterrupted electricity supply and a relatively balanced tariff today is largely thanks to Enguri HPP. We are proud that the rehabilitation works at this plant were carried out by our company.

The most difficult part was the rehabilitation of the tunnel, which was completed in April 2021, and as a result the plant started up again after a three-month pause.

During the rehabilitation of the tunnel, 65,000 metres were drilled. In the course of the works we used an injectable chemical material with which we filled the voids and capillaries around the tunnel, and in this way reduced water losses. That was our main aim — to reduce water losses in the tunnel, which would increase the electricity generated by Enguri HPP. Today the management of the hydropower plant confirms that within three or four months a tangible result has already been achieved and electricity generation has risen sharply.

I believe Enguri HPP is a bridge between Georgians and Abkhazians. I very much hope that our brothers, the Abkhazians, and we will realise that by working together we achieve better results. In order to carry out the rehabilitation works on territory not controlled by the Government of Georgia as well, we of course needed a special permit; a new checkpoint was also opened, and people living in occupied Abkhazia, who likewise understand the importance of Enguri HPP well, took part in the works. Accordingly, everyone helped us. We employed many residents of the territory not controlled by the Government of Georgia as well. They saw that by working together, standing side by side, a great deal can be achieved.
