Joni Chania: “Had it not been for Enguri HPP, it is hard to imagine what economic problems we would be in!”

“From the start of construction to this day, not for a single day have the observation works on the arch dam foreseen in the design been interrupted. Enguri HPP is of the utmost importance for the country’s economy. Had it not been for Enguri HPP, it is hard to imagine what economic problems we would be in,” said Joni Chania, head of the Arch Dam department. “The rehabilitation works now under way in the Enguri HPP tunnel really are large-scale and will increase electricity generation at Enguri HPP still further. We are filling the cracks in the 15-kilometre tunnel using modern technology. Its service guarantee is 10–15 years,” explains Bernd Aberle, the engineer invited by the company Energon.
