Irakli Garibashvili: “More than 40% of total generation is produced by Enguri HPP. That is why it is essential to talk about the importance of Enguri HPP!”

All five units of Enguri HPP were shut down on 20 January 2021 in order to carry out essential and urgent works in the diversion tunnel. The repair and rehabilitation works are currently proceeding on schedule. The process runs around the clock. Most of those employed are local residents. >The rehabilitation under way in the diversion tunnel will significantly reduce the volume of water leaking from the tunnel, which will be reflected in future in the electricity generated by the Enguri hydropower plant. As a result of the rehabilitation of the plant’s diversion tunnel, water losses will fall by 30–35%, which means generating up to 100 million kWh of additional electricity a year. Enguri HPP is to be connected to the common power grid at the beginning of May this year.
