As Deputy Minister of Finance Giorgi Kakauridze said in an address to a session of the Foreign Relations Committee, the agreement concluded with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development covers the rehabilitation of Enguri HPP (including the rehabilitation of the Enguri pressure tunnel), which also includes the installation of a hydrometeorological and hydrometric station.
“In 2018 the EBRD allocated EUR 28 million to Georgia as a loan for the implementation of the project. Last year, during preliminary survey work, it turned out that additional works had to be carried out in the tunnel of the Enguri hydropower plant; a group of international experts came and calculated that the cost of the additional works is about EUR 10 million. Accordingly, we began negotiations with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and they expressed their readiness to allocate a further EUR 10 million, so that in total EUR 38 million will go to the rehabilitation of the Enguri hydropower plant,” Kakauridze said.
